BLUEWATER BOATEL FOR CHESAPEAKE BAY?
New to the world of boating. I am looking to move to the bay area. Want to live alone on a live-aboard. I really have no desire to go deep water cruising in the Atlantic, but rather travel the bay area. my question is; Would this boat be able to handle a rough day on the bay? Or should I be looking toward a used trawler or motor-yacht. I am not in a position to spend large sums of money on a modern boat. I am a hands on type of guy so repairs and upgrades are not a problem. Budget is 25k or less.

on calm days it would be fine. the bay can get very rough in bad weather. your budget is too small for live aboard unless you can stand cramped quarters. slip rent, electric, sanitary pump out , bottom paint. fuel, maintenance insurance and many other items will cost a lot of money. boat fuel(gasoline) is now $3.27 per gallon and your engine will get about 2 miles per gallon. you may want to rethink the plan.

One way is to purchase a boat that is in a transferable live aboard slip. since you are new at boating, suggest that as soon as possible, begin learning all you can about handling and maintaining a boat. a good fist step is to study for and pass the boater's license for the state that you will be living in. you will also need to gain experience in handling your boat. this is best done on calm days. as you gain experience you can go out in rougher weather. there is a lot of boating info on line, and boating courses are also offered by the USCG aux, and local powersquadronss. hope this helps

About Suggestions for a garden

Suggestions for a garden?
what flowers would be good for my yard? The garden would get a lot of sun during the day, and i live in a town right on the chesapeake bay. i tend to travel a lot, so it would need to be able to get by without watering for up to ten days, but when i am home, i am willing to tend it three to four time a week. any suggestions? when i say without watering for up to ten days, it rains relativley often around here, except in the dead of summer, so i would just want plants that were hardy.

It depends on what you are looking for. Annuals are prettier and have alot more blooms. They also bloom longer. On the other hand perrinials come back every year and end up costing you less. For flower gardens I like alot of annuals surrounding a somthing big like a rose bush. I personally favor impatients and snapdragons. Ground covers and ivys are also nice fillers. Another favorite of mine are Gerbera daisies. It just depends on what you want. Just about any annuals can take on full sun. No flower does good without being watered for 10 days, but I'm sure you could find someone who would water them at least once for you in the middle of the week. Just pick a colorful assortment that you would be happy with. As long as it is colorful and you like it, there is no wrong arrangement.

It depends on what you like. I know you said flowers but I'm really into herbs and smallish vegetables. I'm in southern Maryland and have a postage stamp yard but I enjoy having something green going. Every year I add something new but keep my must haves. The other good thing about herbs and veggies are you are more inclined to water and tend them if you know you will reap benefits from them. Whatever you do, don't add mint because it will overrun your garden. Depending on your tastes, you could try chives (great onion flavor), cherry tomatoes (small and bear fruit often), a sage bush or two, some basil (great in everything), pepper plants, etc. Sage does really well in full sun with minimal watering and lasts even in cold weather. Basil helps repel mosquitos and if you plant this year you will see more next year. I generally start planting them outside at this time of year because they don't do well in the cold. You can generally find plants ready to place in your garden at Wal-mart, Home Depot, and Lowes, though there are often garden centers and farmers who sell small plants this time of year. Good luck with whatever you choose but do plant a garden, it's a great stress buster. You can try this site for extra herb garden info and there are many more: herbalgardens.com.

We travel some in the summer, but no more than say 3-4 days at a time. www.gardeners.com sells spikes that you screw 2 liter bottles of water into so that your plants get water while you're away :) You could also invest in a timer- it will turn your hose/sprinkler on automatically for you each day at the time you specify. I've had good luck with marigolds. I accidentally left a container of them out in the sun without water before I left for 3 days, came back, and they were still alive!

The cost of the trip depends on what you're doing, how you're getting around, where you're staying etc. Example prices include: Lunch in a restaurant/fast food shop, sandwhich and drink from a deli: $5-10 Dinner in a restaurant: $10-$15 Hotel (not in a city center): $50-$100/night If you havent worked out an itinerary yet: check out www.hostelworld.com and www.hostelbookers.com (you can book youth hostel beds anywhere if you're young and like to save money with these sights. Hampton Inn, Best Western, Days Inn and Motel 6 are all common hotel chains. Be prepared to spent at least $2000 and be able to get more in case of emergency. You might not want to bring too much cash, actually--you can pay for virtually anything in the US with a credit card (assuming it's a Visa or Mastercard) and you can get money out of ATMs anywhere. NOTE that you should contact your bank or the issuer of your credit cards to make sure they are authorized in the US.

Places to go around D.C. by the ocean or Chesapeake Bay?
I am going to D.C. at the end of June and we want to spend a day around the ocean or by water because living in Minnesota we don't get to go around the ocean much! Where is a place that we could travel to from D.C. within an hour or less that is by the ocean or water like Chesapeake Bay? Thanks!

Try going to Hanes point, the National Harbor, or visit old towne Alexandria. Have a nice visit!

you could go to annaoplis. its really pretty around there and is about 20 min from d.c. or you could go to sandy point beach which is right next to annapolis, and it sits on the cheaspeake bay. i would go to the annopolis harbor, and have lunch and stuff there. and hit up the beach if you wanted to since its suppose to be really hot tomarrow. you could also go to baltimore, but bmore definitly isnt as safe or nice as annapolis is.

This may be more than you want - but it's only about 3 hours from DC to Williamsburg, VA. That's on the coast, but it's also a very significant place in American history. You could easily spend several days there.
